Thierry Henry praised Romelu Lukaku

Thierry Henry praised Romelu Lukaku after his two-goal debut for Manchester United against West Ham on Super Sunday.

The £90m arrival from Everton opened the scoring at Old Trafford on 33 minutes and netted again in the second half, with Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial also on the scoresheet in a 4-0 win.

Henry believes Jose Mourinho now has a wealth of firepower to choose from this season and says United have "amazing" potential.

But the Sky Sports football expert also warned Lukaku he has things to work on, chiefly in possession, after the Belgium international lost the ball 18 times against the Hammers.

"He was close to a hat-trick, he scored goals we expected him to score, and there are bits he can work on," Henry told Sky Sports. "But what a start to his Manchester United career.

"The possession, this is the thing for me he needs to work on. He lost it 18 times and that is a tiny bit too much. Other than that he had an amazing start. He could have had a hat-trick but he did what he is supposed to do.

"I thought Marcus Rashford had an amazing game. Gary [Neville] said it, the pace they have, the size they have, and today they put the ball in the back of the net.

"That was something they were not doing last season. Lukaku was outstanding, Nemanja Matic too, and Rashford was a threat all afternoon.

"Then Martial came on and he had desire. I saw him take that first ball on the left side and he went straight at Pablo Zabaleta. That was something I didn't see at times last season.

"Pogba scored too and when you have Martial off the bench, the firepower they have and the size, with Matic commanding the midfield, they are going to be amazing."

Fellow Sky Sports analyst Graeme Souness agreed with Henry and said Mourinho has "big decisions" to make in attack if all his options are fit.

Sky Sports studio guest Alan Pardew said Manchester United's 4-0 win over West Ham was like watching 'a United team of old'

"They have Jesse Lingard as well," Souness added. "They have lots of players who can play different types of football.

"At 2-0 the game became stretched, West Ham were trying to force their way back into the match, and that suited United's pacey players.

"If you go through Manchester United's squad, they have a great goalkeeper, defensively they are solid and powerful, they have great size throughout the team and they have young guys like Rashford and Martial, and I don't think we have seen the best of Henrikh Mkhitaryan yet either.

"He came with a big reputation but wasn't at it last year. I expect him to have a great year.

"The manager has big decisions to make if everyone is fit. He has genuine quality to pick from. "
